Some
Turkish customs
It is illegal not to
carry photograph ID in Turkey. It is therefore advisable to carry a
photocopy of your passport with you at all times.
Turkey is 2 hours ahead
of the UK and 1 hour ahead of mainland Europe.
When driving in Turkey
you must carry your driving licence with you at all times. Further it
is advisable not to travel long distances at night as road and driving
conditions are not to UK and European standards.
The sun in Turkey is
very strong, especially in July and August, a strong factor sun cream
should be applied frequently.
A sink plug may come in useful, as many hotels and small pensions do not
supply a plug. This is because in the Muslim faith it is preferred that
one washes in running water. A torch may be needed as some areas of road
in Dalyan are unlit and of an uneven surface. Turkey also has many power
cuts but these usually only last for a short while.
Water: Although the
water is clean it is not recommended that you drink it due to the high
mineral content. Bottled water is not expensive.
It is advisable to drink bottled water and wash all fruit and vegetables
before eating.
Photography: The
Turkish landscape is perfect for photographic opportunities. Do be
careful of Military Zones, inside museums. Some local people in villages
may be offended if you take their picture. It is always wise to ask
first.
Post office: These can easily be spotted by the yellow PTT sign.
It is centre of town. It is working like a bank too.
